I was thinking about my first encounter with a duvet back in 1991 when this west Texas boy ended up in Germany on the way to Poland to teach pastors. When it came time to go to bed I pulled back the covers expecting the same old sheet  sandwich only to discover all that was on top was a duvet. A down comforter in a sack like covering.  I didn’t know if I was suppose to climb inside like a sleeping back, or sleep underneath this smothering down comforter, blanket combo. The room was something like 80 degrees because for some reason they like their houses believably hot in cold climates. I wish I could have googled it, but this was before the mobile phone was here to answer all our questions. I eventually took it apart and slept under just the duvet cover. I am sure the room cleaner came in the next day and thought, “ stupid American.” Once I discovered what I was suppose to do, I felt stupid.

Isn’t life full of crazy first experiences that at the same time make life exciting and memorable but can even be a little scary because we don’t have a clue what we are doing. I don’t remember everything from that trip, but I remember that duvet. Thankfully, there is a google for life, it’s the word of God.

Psalm 119:105 (NASB95) 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

Love you, Pastor Randy
